Know Christ, Serve Christ, Share Christ: That's our vision at KUMC and here is a vital place where we try to put our money where our mouth is. While our financial gifts help to support global missions, teams are active in making a difference for people right here in our community. We believe that serving God means serving others, and we encourage everyone to become part of a team of servants that is truly changing lives. The purpose is not merely to staff teams with volunteers, but to create the opportunity for each of us to experience the incomparable power that serving others for Christ has in our own lives. Revealing the servant nature of Christ through our own servanthood only enhances our personal walk with Him.
Stephen Ministry
What is Stephen Ministries? It is a group of trained 'care-givers' whose
ministry is to offer love and support to whomever would like to have their
assistance. Stephen ministers are trained. Stephen ministers are
confidential. Stephen ministers are the 'after people'.
Please call the church office at 305-667-0343 and talk with Pastor George if you
would like to obtain more information about our Stephen Ministry or have a
Stephen Minister or know someone who may need the help of a Stephen Minister.
If you would like to find out about becoming a Stephen Minister, please contact
Pastor George about qualifications and training.
Flower Ministry
Flowers can truly brighten the day of someone in the hospital or homebound. Volunteers rearrange the flower arrangements used in Sunday morning worship and deliver them to folks who could use a pick-me-up.
Blood Drive Team
Because blood is always in such great demand in South Florida, KUMC sponsors an on-site blood drive with the American Red Cross every 8 weeks. Many times, recipients of our donated supply have been our own family.
Epworth Village
Epworth Village is a Methodist retirement living center whose residents love the attention and interaction of this team several times a year, especially on holidays.
Habitat for Humanity
For many of us who experienced the devastation of Hurricane Andrew to our homes
or have seen the results of the more recent natural disasters, we have a deepened appreciation for what it means to not have a roof over our heads. KUMC teams, in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity, have built
several homes in this community. You need not know anything about building, just be willing to learn and work!
Migrant Ministry
There are hundreds of migrant families living in South Dade whose livelihood depends on seasonal agriculture and available work. KUMC helps to support these families by collecting canned goods, non-perishables, clothing and furniture and distributing them with the help of a social worker. This team also creates seasonal baskets and purchases Christmas toys for these neighbors to the south.
Florida City Branches Ministries
The Branches kids are a group of underprivileged children who gather at Florida City United Methodist Church. They desperately need to be ministered to through personal contact, contributions and the revelation of the ever-present love and hope of Jesus Christ. KUMC
has adopted this worthy cause as a churchwide mission effort to change young
peoples' lives.
Community Partnership for the Homeless
Feeding the hungry is indisputably part of Christ's plan for his disciples. Many volunteers help prepare and serve food at the center for many of South Florida's homeless several times a year. Others collect funds and supplies to make baby layettes for new mothers.
The United Methodist Children's Home
Our entire church family and the United Methodist Church support this home in Enterprise, Florida for children who have found themselves in dire need of a loving home environment. Every month containing a fifth Sunday, a special offering is collected in worship and designated to help this vital, effective ministry.
Kitchen Ministry
Just as the kitchen is the heart of many homes, in many ways the church's
kitchen is the heart of the church. Serving in the Kitchen Ministry brings
with it unexpected rewards. It offers the opportunity to build closer
relationships with the church community that spans all age groups and interests.
Men and women working together in the church kitchen produce a unique, informal
Christian environment where one can display his/her special talents while
serving God. Centered around the Wednesday Night Dinner schedule, the work load
and time of service is very flexible. The real fun begins around 3 o'clock
in the afternoon and can last until 8 o'clock. In addition to Wednesday
night, there are many other opportunities throughout the year to serve in the
kitchen such as during the holidays and special occasions.
